Emirati Living Archive
A love letter to my country, its people, and the stories that connect us.
The Emirati Living Archive began with a simple desire to reconnect with my roots, rediscover the traditions I grew up around, and learn more about the ones I didn't.
Through conversations with Emirati elders, personal memories, and research, I'm exploring the stories, objects, and customs that have shaped life in the UAE. Our heritage is not one single story, but a rich tapestry of different tribes, communities, regional traditions and cultural influences. From the coast to the desert, the mountains to the cities, each has contributed to the identity we share today. Through this Archive, I hope to celebrate that diversity and share the stories that make our culture so special with the world.
This is a living archive, not a definitive account of our history. Traditions and memories can differ between families, communities, and generations. I intend to honour these stories as they are shared with me, approach them with curiosity and care, and continue learning along the way.
Some of these discoveries also find their way into my ceramic art, giving familiar objects and traditions a new form while keeping their stories alive.
Have a story or memory to share?
I'd love to hear from you. Whether you have a different recollection, a family tradition, or something you'd like to add, your perspective is always welcome. You can reach me at hello@nadbatmeytha.ae
