Burqa Umy Amna

Burqa Umy Amna is a ceramic body of work rooted in nostalgia and remembrance. The burqa an intimate and distinctly Emirati garment has long been a marker of identity, protection, and femininity, yet its presence is fading across generations. Through sculptural ceramic forms, Meytha AlShehhi reimagines the burqa as an enduring vessel of memory. Varying in scale from human-sized to intimate objects, the works function as a personal archive and a quiet act of cultural preservation. Rendered in clay an enduring material historically tied to what survives time the series invites reflection on loss, inheritance, and the evolving visibility of Emirati women and their traditions.
